Many of the towns capture a sense of the colonial era with mock Tudor houses and colonial bungalows. Nuwara Eliya is a now on the main tourist trail and rather faded, staying in the countryside will provide a more rewarding experience.

Kandy – The town is most famous for the Temple of the Tooth and the Perahera festival in August. This is when Buddha’s tooth is taken through the town in a nightly procession with many elephants, dancers, acrobats and music.
